Apple Plays the Patent Blame Game
As you’ll be able to see in more detail from the source story post, Apple as well as a few other tech companies haven’t exactly had the best week ever. Thanks to a patent now owned by the folks over at Wyncomm it seems as though the big A may have to pay up if it expects users to talk on the phone and surf the web at the same time. Basically, the raw end of the deal is that this small-time tech outfit is trying to make as much of cash-in as it can before the document expires in 2013.
The way I see it, in some ways I am kind of happy about this. As we all know, Apple has been one of the dirtiest offenders to all kinds of smartphone related patent lawsuits. Just ask Samsung how much they had to pay out for their supposed design errors and I can assure you they will not be happy about it. Even if Apple has enough cash to pay for any damages that this case may result in, there’s a bit of satisfaction here in knowing that the company will be getting a little taste of its own medicine. Quite honestly, with the tech field expanding so far so fast, I sort of think the whole patent game is out of control in this sector of things. It’s gotten to the point where you can’t create a hit product, without somebody else reaching their hand in for the profits. I suppose if the courts find it within the law, then it is right for others to get their due payment; but I feel like those kinds of legislative bodies should be concerned about other more important crimes than how hardware makers choose to create their phones.
