So this week we’ve got a bit of news about how you can play games through the browser on PS4 and Xbox One, like you can on the Vita at vitagame.tk . We’ve also got news on Monster Hunter 4, and Microsoft being a tad naughty when it comes to youtube……
Vita news? Not much this week unfortunately besides something awesome that there’s a high chance there’ll be an announcement soon that the slim revision of the PS Vita ( PCH-2000) is coming to the western regions (EU/US).
Okay, so I guess you could call that reasonably big news.
I read this news on IGN where they were invited to ‘an exclusive breakfast briefing’
Where they will be introducing ‘the slimmest’, as The Z mentioned earlier today, here
I guess we’ll know in a few days time…
As we all know the slim version is available in Japan already, and has been since October. It’s 20% thinner, and 15% lighter. Although alot of people weren’t too happy about the choice of the switch from OLED to LCD, Andrew House has said:
The main reason is that the LCD panel can now realise an image quality as high as that of the OLED panel
We all know the true reason for that though don’t we Mr. House? To save themselves some dollar…
Here’s a comparison photo of an original Vita model and also a slim version screen:
As you can see there is a bit of a difference between the two, but I’m wondering is the OLED oversaturated or is the LCD screen sub-par?
In all honesty, I’m happy with my Vita at the moment, and I think it’s a perfect width for the moment. I obviously haven’t tried the slim yet so I’m open to opinion.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any Vita game announcements this week, but that doesn’t mean that Vita games haven’t been released!
Here’s the games that have been released in the EU and US store;
Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z
I guess we can also include PSM game releases as well in this, so here it is:
Gran Sun R.Y.E.Z
Kick it! – football
And here’s the US releases:
Age of Zombies!
I couldn’t find the PS Mobile update for US .
The links above are to the full PS Store update, both EU and US.
Anyway, let’s move on to news on a twitter campaign that started last year, known as ‘ #JRPGVITA’. Like any launch event it can’t be without it’s games! Adam Boyes was in an interview last year with Kotaku and said this:
I would say in the next year’s time, if you’re a fan of Japanese games, if you’re a fan of Vita, then hopefully we’ll have a little treat for you.
I’m sure, like many people, their first though would be Final Fantasy Type-0 (or maybe a new Dissidia). Although the boss of Double Eleven has spoken about porting a PS3 exclusive to the Vita, and the first recent JRPG that comes to mind that was a PS3 exclusive?
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
So, I guess it being a PS3 exclusive rules out Type-0, my money is on Ni No Kuni.
What other JRPG PS3 exclusives could be in the runnings for a Vita port? Let me know if I’ve missed one in the comments below!
Next up, we’ve got some beautiful new screenshots of the highly anticipated ‘The Division’, here they are:
This game is obviously going to be one of the best looking games of 2014, but there’s quite a few next gen exclusives coming out, so it will have it’s competition, but it will definitely be up there with the best.
Next up I’ll talk about the browser games I mentioned in the title, just like vitagame.tk, browser games you can play on the Vita, there’s now a version for the PS4 and Xbox. Sonyfied and Xboxie I haven’t tried the website on PS4 out for myself, but I’ve heard there are some problems with sound, and other things. But that’s a given with every new project. There’s bound to be problems.
Although it’s just launched the other day, it’s already got a decent catalogue of 35 games, including Pacman, Cut the Rope, and Bejewled.
Here’s a screenshot of sonyfied:
Xboxie has exactly the same games, it’s just different for compatibility most likely, and also it’s decorated differently of course, being green ‘n all.
So I’ll stray from the norm for a bit, and talk about the 3DS. Capcom have been brave enough to actually venture outside of Japan (Or is that Sega?) and bring the highly popular game Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate to EU and US, but unfortunately this is only for the 3DS, I remember hearing something about Capcom signing an exclusivity deal with Nintendo, I’m not sure if it was for a certain amount of time or a certain number of games, but you can bet your bottom dollar that this game isn’t coming to the Vita
They are expecting to sell 2.8 million copies in a 7 month period, do you think this is too high an expectation? Or reasonable ?(bearing in mind he’s talking about 2 regions)
So here’s the news on Microsoft being a bit naughty when it comes to playing around with youtube. It seems they were willing to pay youtube users $3 per thousand views for promoting the Xbox One. This includes saying nothing bad about it and having videos of playing an Xbox game.
These are the best rules on their NDA T&C that has been posted on Pastebin:
2. You may not say anything negative or disparaging about Machinima, Xbox One or any of its Games in your Campaign Video;
4. You must verbally mention that you are playing the game shown on the Xbox One console.
Then again, Microsoft aren’t just the only company to do something like this.
EA (believe it or not) did something similar with their beast of a game Battlefield 4. Where you weren’t allowed to mention anything about the bugs, glitches or anything, and were paying $10/thousand views.
Their ‘conditions’ were:
- Do not make a video that focuses on the glitches of the game
- Must contain ‘Battlefield 4 launch‘ in the video title
- Must contain a link in the video description to the Battlefield 4 site ‘http://bit.ly/16qlvAi’
Wait, isn’t bit.ly a money making link site? Or is that Adf.ly? If it is, that’s even more naughty!
So let’s talk about one of the best things in the world….. Pokemon!
A Deviantart user has created a Pokemon game created by the community and his friends, and it’s pretty good. It’s still in it’s beta phase at the moment and what he’s put up is just a 30~ minute demo, but it is very good. Give it a shot, being as I can’t embed it, here’s a link to it:
And some screenshots to do it justice:
