PS4 sales drop. Outsold by PS Vita in Japan.

April 15, 2014

Not only did the PS Vita outsell the PS4, it almost doubled units sold vs. the PS4. What’s going on?

I’m going to start off by saying that there is nothing necessarily wrong with the PS Vita outselling the PS4. It could mean that all of the people who are buying Vitas, are getting them so they can remote play with their already owned PS4s. It’s just a surprise to me that this situation would occur.

DualShockers put together the numbers from Media Create’s weekly sales charts, and got the following:

Vita – 25,017
3DS LL – 22,947
PS4 – 13,401
PS3 – 10,871
3DS – 9,091
Wii U -7,962
PSP – 2,892
Vita TV – 1,371
Xbox 360 – 276

I’m going to take this time to express some of my thoughts on this. Wow, PS4 got out sold by a 3DS (bothing against Nintendo). Ha, Vita TV beat up Xbox 360, and so did the good ole PSP. PS3 is still thriving pretty well. Ok, done with my thoughts for now.

The Vita is a full two years older than the PS4. Wouldn’t it make more sense if the PS4 had more sales. Especially considering: 1. More people want to buy it, and 2. It is way younger.

Then the question, could this be to blame on PS4 stock shortages? It could fully well be, and I assume it will be at least another month until Sony catches up with demand.

Essentialy, these sale figures could mean nothing. But they might. In terms of money, the PS4 and Xbox One a pretty much on par with each other. In terms of units sold, the PS4 has a slight lead. We’ll have to wait until the 17th to no how it is now. But as always, the console wars rage on.

That’s all for now from me, The Jay Doctor. Why do you think the Vita is outselling the PS4? Let me know in the comments, or on Twitter where I can be contacted/followed @The_Jay_Doctor, using the handy links below.
