Skyrim’s PS3 DLC – A Royal F*ck Up ?

September 3, 2012

I fell in love with the Elder Scrolls games, back when Morrowind was released on the Xbox one, Morrowind remains my favourite version.

Oblivion was good, it added new features and the graphics were decent, i completed it twice on the Xbox 360, but its just didn’t have the longevity of Morrowind, which to me was disappointing, but i still enjoyed the game.

Then Skyrim came along and wow, the game had the graphics and it had the long term play factor, even more so when the DLC Dawngaurd came along, it has been on the Xbox 360 for over a month, with word that a second DLC called Hearthfire was being released, there was still no news of a PS3 release date for Dawngaurd, until recently when several websites reported that the DLC may be released for the PS3 after Hearthfire or that it may never come to the PS3 at all.

Will it come to the PS3, are PS3 owners being screwed, are Bethesda having trouble coding on the PS3, you decide here are a few quotes from several sites:

Altering Dawnguard PS3 Release Contract For Hearthfire

You won’t need us to remind you, but Microsoft has another exclusive on the next Skyrim expansion, meaning that Xbox 360 players are going to get Hearthfire or whatever it ends up being called, at ‘least’ 30 days before PS3 users. We say at least, as we initially thought there was a locked 30 day barrier in place, similar to COD DLC releases for example, but Dawnguard has shown us that it is a lot more complicated than that.

Skyrim PS3 Users Shun Dishonored Over Dawnguard

Some PS3 gamers are so upset they are keeping away from all Bethesda games, this seems a little crazy at first when you consider Bethesda’s upcoming games include Dishonored, The Elder Scrolls Online, Prey 2, and Doom 4. You’ll find comments in many forums along the lines of “I will NOT be buying Dishonored thanks to the situation with Dawnguard on PS3“. It is worth pointing out that this ill feeling might be short lived after some of the big titles are released, and this also gives certain gamers time to calm down after the lack of communication Bethesda has given with Dawnguard on PS3.

Then we have to consider the upset caused so far, which started with some bad framerate issues within the main Skyrim game and these later received a fix. What makes matters even more frustrating for PS3 owners is the fact that Skyrim Dawnguard has been on the Xbox 360 for almost 2 months, and the DLC is still missing a PS3 release date.

Skyrim: Dawnguard PS3 Delay ‘Not Impacted By Hearthfire’

Skyrim developer Bethesda has responded to suggestions that Dawnguard’s PS3 delay has been lengthened by the announcement of the Hearthfire DLC for Xbox 360, calling the expansions “separate things”.

“We are working on multiple projects, even beyond those two things. The entire team doesn’t work on one thing at a time,” Pete Hines tweeted to followers. “They are separate things,” he said at the suggestion Hearthfire’s development was slowing that of Dawnguard’s for PlayStation.

Skyrim: Bethesda ‘not positive’ DLC Coming To PS3

In a statement posted to on the Bethesda forum, the developer admitted that Dawnguard – and potentially, future DLC packs – might not ever make it to the PS3, although it will continue to try.

“Skyrim is a massive and dynamic game that requires a lot of resources, and things get much more complex when you’re talking about sizable content like Dawnguard. We have tried a number of things, but none of them solve the issue enough to make Dawnguard good for everyone.

The PS3 is a powerful system, and we’re working hard to deliver the content you guys want. Dawnguard is obviously not the only DLC we’ve been working on either, so the issues of adding content get even more complicated. This is not a problem we’re positive we can solve, but we are working together with Sony to try to bring you this content.

“We wish we had a more definitive answer right now. We understand the frustration when the same content is not available on all platforms. When we have an update, we will certainly let you know. We deeply appreciate all the time and support you have given us, and we’ll keep doing our best to return that.”

Ill make a poll so you can vote on the situation.
